THANK YOU! I am so happy I came across this article on my Medium feed. I will never forget the one time a white lady (who was a missionary who had lived in the Philippines) told me I was wrong to call myself "Filipino," and that I need to refer to myself as a "Filipina," because I am a woman. I have used Filipina for instances that made sense, with context. I calmly explained to her our language was gender neutral and that I prefer Filipino. I do have many Fil-Am friends who try to implement Filipinx, and while I do not want to dictate what other fellow Filipinos do and don't do, I will (respectively) not be participating. My pronouns are she/her/siya and I will continue to prefer to be called Filipino :)
